About Germini

The problem we're solving:

Germini has emerged as a proposal to solve problems in two great industries: the textile industry, and the agribusiness industry. • The Brazilian textile industry produced by 2022, according to Iemi, 192 thousand tons of textile waste, of which only 20% of this material is recycled (Carta Capital, 2023). The rest of these waste is inadequately discarded in landfills and dumps. The big problem is in the toxicity of this material, the products that are used in the dyeing and washing part that are in the tissues in which these pieces of Clothes are produced and end up in the environment; • The agribusiness industry loses about 24 million tons in harvest per year, due to adverse conditions (climate). In 2023 alone, it was a loss of 20.1 million tons due to climate behavior in the main producing regions. This represents a value of R $ 70 billion in losses. And how do these two industries and their problems reach Germini? They come as a form of opportunity for both segments, we want to solve the problem of the low seed germination rate, especially when exposed to adverse conditions (e.g. lack of moisture, excess heat or cold). And consequently, help with proper disposal of toxic waste produced by the textile industry. Thus, the segment of customers we seek are the farmers, having as partners, the producers of the textile industry.

Our solution:

Germini produces a biofortifier, produced by carbon nanoparticles, for the encapsulation of seeds to be used in agricultural production. For this, we use the sludge produced by the textile industry as a raw material for the production of nanoparticle. We therefore guarantee, increase in germination rate, harvest production and vegetable quality. Germini seeks this way, helping to reduce these losses in agribusiness, helping from the small producer (producer of family farming) to the large farmers in their crops and is also a way to make a proper disposal for the toxic waste produced by Textile industry, thus improving life in the environment. Transforming trash into life.

Our differentiator:

As competitors we have a player in the market, Krilltech. Krilltech is an Agtech that also uses carbon nanoparticles for liquid biofertilizer production for use in the plantation, but this to be used by spraying, so it deals with plantation when it is already grown. The differential of Germini is that our product takes care of the plantation from the seed, that is, Germini wants to increase the production of crops since its initial phase, that is, in germination, ensuring a higher rate and consequently, a crop with less losses.

Our biggest achievement:

Germini was born from a discipline called Projectão at the Federal University of Pernambuco. We won the "Best Project" and "Greatest Market Potential" award. We also passed in 2nd place in the process of incubating the UFPE Polotec.
